The Upcoming Cat In The Hat Movie Looks Highly Promising And Groovy

It has been over three weeks since the launch of the trailer for an animated feature
Based on the classic poetic tale of no other than a tall, fun-loving creature [10] [42].
But wait! Hasn’t a film based on The Cat In The Hat already been done [35]?
Well, many critics considered the live-action adaptation anything but fun [4] [5] [40] [41].
Even the second wife of Dr. Seuss hated the outcome of the strange movie
And forbade any more live-action films, whether their productions would go wrong or run smoothly [9].
Luckily, distributed by Warner Bros. and fully animated instead [35] [42],
The second film starring the cat might be considered a big step ahead.
As a fantasy comedy, it may work better for plenty of us
Without the other film’s adult humour, which caused some fuss [4] [5] [40] [41].
I know what you must still be thinking during the fun at San Diego Comic-Con [6].
Nothing can beat the musical adaptation of the book from 1971 [10] [15] [38],
But like I stated, there must be some efforts to revive the idea
Of a fantasy comedy movie in cinemas without any doubt or fear,
Along with what went wrong in the crazy film from 2003 [4] [5] [9] [40] [41].
So, will the imminent animated feature succeed? We’ll see.

The book about a cat wearing a hat debuted in the second half of the 1950s [10].
The forthcoming film based on the timeless tale does not look so shifty [42],
But let us look deeper into what has been shown in the trailer
Beyond the days of the 2003 film making critics rant like sailors [4] [5] [9] [40] [41]. [42]

Let us reflect on the newest incarnation of Dr. Seuss’ iconic kitty.
Voiced by Bill Hader [10], he still ought to be quite charming and witty [42].
The moment in the trailer of him opening the box, despite the warnings not to
Is a callback to Conrad opening the crate in the live-action point-of-view [35].
He also appears to have a boss who confronts him at some point in the plot
And he will cause some trouble where his clients’ busy mother is not [42].
Surely, the “Too Far” or “Toot Fart” joke may be a little childish to an extent,
But I would not say that the humour demonstrated so far is total torment.
As one-dimensional but charming he was in the Living Books game on PC [39],
Could he receive a backstory like how the Grinch did [36]? Maybe.
But in the present, he could reflect on his failed missions on a new one [42],
Aside from the possible competition with other employees, including Ron.
I suspect that Warner Bros.’ version of the Cat in the Hat will be about as fleshed out
As the incarnations of Sam-I-Am and Guy-Am-I on Netflix without a doubt [29] [46] [47].
Well, except maybe a little doubt on my own accord
As the live-action incarnation must still be on a movie critic’s dartboard [4] [5] [40] [41].

Bill Hader previously played the role in a skit on Saturday Night Live [10] [23].
So, when reprising in a more respectable way, how much did he strive [42]?
I hold no ill will towards the casting choices [10], especially for the promising protagonist so far [42],
But were there some good efforts to coherently write this incarnation as a born-again movie star [35]? [10]

 
The two children from the book, Sally and her brother, are the cat’s co-stars.
We only know that they got the “Little Mermaid in 2023” treatment so far [37].
So, I am not surprised if the forthcoming film is already being called “woke”,
But I must firmly state that the anti-woke mindset has become a joke [18] [19] [20] [31] [32] [33]!
The boy is suspected of being portrayed differently compared to Conrad
And Sally’s personality and character growth also might not be half bad [10] [35] [42].
But wait! The clients’ names are NOT “Conrad” and “Sally”, you say?
Their names are “Gabby” and “Sebastian”…and they are aged differently [10]? Okay!
I have a feeling that Gabby and Sebastian are rather different characters in general,
But I honestly cannot say that this change is entirely untenable.
I suppose they will have some depth and development, compared to Sally and her brother [35],
Yet both pairs of siblings do not have a generic stay-at-home mother [10] [35].
But of course, the pet fish ought to still be comforting to the cat
To be faithful to how he was like, “Look at this! Look at that!” [24] [26] [39].
Surely, the cat can help his two clients who are struggling to adapt to a new life
As their mother voiced by America Ferrera may follow the trope of an ex-wife [10].

An example of slapstick is Gabby attacking with pepper spray
As I doubt that the fish’s name and surname will begin with “K” [38] [42].
There seems to be no babysitter to be reduced to a punching bag or a puppet here
As Gabby, Sebastian’s sister, appears to be at the start of her teenage years [10] [35] [40] [41] [42].
I understand that Conrad and Sally’s opposite personalities were to flesh them out more [35],
But Gabby and Sebastian’s struggles may be more valid as something one might have faced before [10].
Moreover, at least making two “race swapped” characters entirely new characters instead 
May save the film from the anti-woke crowd’s wrath, which I rightfully always dread [18] [19] [20] [31] [32] [33]. [42]

And here are Sally and her brother from the book in a sample of concept art
And it looks like they are scrapped and replaced with new characters to play their parts [10] [42]…
Or perhaps they will make cameos in one of the cat’s failed missions in a flashback [42],
Considering how short the book’s story is [24] [26], so I might cut that a little slack. [10]

 
Aside from how we suspect regarding the cat and the children so far,
What about some of the adaptation’s quirkily designed co-stars [42]?
We firstly see the green guy warning the cat about opening a forbidden box,
Then the boss on the phone, who confronts quite like a spouse on the rocks.
Can you believe that there are more things than Thing One and Thing Two?!
I wonder if they will have certain personality traits. Do you?
Several more things are designed differently, but still wear the same iconic attire
And the two OG things may provide some use, like in the infamy starring Mike Meyers [35].
And yes, the visual difference between two of the things we see
Is that Thing 3 wears glasses, which is pretty cute you ask me [42].
Aside from the car and the things, there are other creatures trying to spread the fun,
Including a giraffe, a yak, a pig, a bug and a rat, but no blue hedgehog who can run [25].
The lore of the original book appears to be expanded in the forthcoming animated feature
With a purposeful business full of more chaotic and surreal but fun-seeking creatures [24] [26] [39] [42].
 

Thing 1 and Thing 3 are about as cute as Sam-I-Am, 
My favourite character from the animated adaptation of Green Eggs and Ham [29] [42] [46] [47]!
But where the heck is Ben, also known as “Thing A” or “Thing 2” [35]?
You don’t suppose he is on an adults-only vacation with Linda [23], do you? [42]

Oooh! The kitty gets a call from the boss on his flip phone [42],
So that tacky references to social media apps can (hopefully) be left alone!
Remember those from The Emoji Movie [1]?
Well, at least the Just Dance scene was kind of groovy [22]. [42]

The animation appeared to be cel-shaded, compared to Illumination’s visuals [36] [42] [50].
It is coherent enough to enrich the feeling of following the fictional,
But some of the palettes may be a little too saturated for someone like you,
Including the cat’s tint of red, the opposite of Stitch’s shades of blue [8] [16] [27] [30],
But at least the style in the real world is calmer on the eyes
By now, the effects, such as competent lighting, are no big surprise [42],
But the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration looks even more imaginative than Baby Corp. from The Boss Baby [34].
The new style for an animated Dr. Seuss film from another studio has caught the eye of this autistic lady
Who is also familiar with the hub of the Spider-Society in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse [28] [42],
As well as Mr. Humberfloob’s light green attire and ironically memorable outburst [35].
Eyes are cutesy and beady, but not in full-on anime or manga flair
As a significant amount of detail is applied to fur and hair [27] [42].
As for the characters’ movements, they are about as lively as movements in a film from Illumination [36] [42] [50].
Modernised, colourful and expressive, I suppose this is the right form of animation.
Can you imagine the animation being like the visuals in The Grinch and The Lorax
If Rob Lieber, Chris Meledandri and Audrey Giesel at Illumination did not give the project the axe [10] [36] [42] [50]?

 

So, aside from a new animation style, one of the directors is Michael Bay [10].
Alright, but no needless montage of explosions in a certain scene [13]. Okay?
The special effects and skits in the live-action film were surprisingly creative [35],
But as wasteful as they seemed, this animation looks at least probative [42]. [10]

Some of the imaginative essences of the visuals in Dr. Seuss’ stories are still there [42],
Yet some competent storytelling would be a sign of plenty of thought and care.
In all honesty, I am one of the least blunt critics I know,
But calling me an “NPC” just for being me [17] [21]? That’s pretty low… [42]

Quite like how a human needs a glass of water or juice,
Every modern era needs a delightful bit of Dr. Seuss.
In February 2026, a new adaptation of a children’s book awaits [42]
Whether it will be a good movie or a bad one will be up for debate,
But it is vital that the same mistakes that the live-action film made
Will not be made again…or full trust in the idea will fade [4] [5] [9] [35] [42].
But of course, with fond memories of watching it in your old neighbourhood,
Chances are that you may still find it so bad that it is partially good [35],
Yet even though the upcoming animated film looks quite good so far [42],
We can always stick to the book being read to us in ASMR [24] [26],
But as much as we miss the times from about a decade ago or two [11] [12],
New memories to cherish in the rest of this decade await me and you.
Even when the day of the film’s release is wet and not sunny,
Could it be considered quite a lot of fun that is funny [24] [26] [39]?
In the meantime, we are either excited or nervous about Zootopia 2.
This November, the sequel, also known as “Zootropolis 2” awaits me and you [7] [43].

With (hopefully) very little reliance on pop culture references and tacky adult jokes [4] [5] [40] [41],
This film ought to stand out on its own accord, even when being labelled as “woke” [31] [32] [33].
Too bad the brand-new Smurfs film is being considered one of the worst [2] [3] [4],
But could the second chance for the Cat in the Hat be worth the immerse [42]?
And yes, there is hope that the animated series based on a retelling of Twilight
Can be considered better than the films based on the saga someday or night [44] [45].
In the meantime, I shall reflect on a quirky lesbian character of mine
Who is a younger sister of the cat known as ‘The Feline of Fashion Design” [48] [49]. [10]
