A Song Sung From The Forthcoming First Season Of Lackadaisy

After beating Catherine: Full Body for the fourth time, resulting in the True Freedom ending from the original Catherine [4] [12], I was starstruck at another short but sweet sample of the upcoming first season of Lackadaisy, along with two previews of the second season of Hazbin Hotel, including a scene featuring a new song titled “Gravity” [15] [28] [42] [43]. It has been confirmed within the preview of an episode of Lackadaisy – Season One that the series will be produced by GLITCH, the studio responsible for Murder Drones, The Amazing Digital Circus, and the Knights of Guinevere pilot [10] [16] [18] [28]. I personally do not doubt that the forthcoming cat’s meow, according to Talking Angela [25] [67] [68], will be another form of escapism, like how Sonic the Hedgehog has helped some people through their hardships and how the first season of Hazbin Hotel has helped me after the loss of my mother [46] [65] [66] [71]. As bronies and pegasisters continue to celebrate the 15^th anniversary of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic before the launch of the English dub of Pokémon Horizons: Season 3 - Rising Hope on BBC iPlayer [37] [53], let us head back to the probation era in the 1920s and see a little more of what the upcoming first season of Lackadaisy has to offer as a fusion of historical accuracy and creativity within an adaptation of an award-winning webcomic series [28] [29] [67] [68].

While the second and more ambitious revamp of the original Talking Tom app is carefree and cartoonishly zany, primarily for very young tablet users in this day and age [38] [50] [51], Lackadaisy is always sure to appeal to older animation admirers due to its historical essences and much more mature approach [27] [29] [67] [68]. Care to join us in your cat costumes, Moxxie and Mille [83]? [18]

And care to bellow an introductory monologue, Golden Joe [26]? [15] [28]

Much to my delight, the latest preview of Lackadaisy - Season One is a musical number [15] [28]. While “Gravity” is an angsty heavy rock vow to avenge Adam aggressively sung by Lute featuring him as a backup vocalist and a hallucination at some point in the second season of Hazbin Hotel [6] [42], “Last Call” is an upbeat jazz number that young adults who either obeyed or challenged the law that established the prohibition of alcohol in the roaring ‘20s would dance to [15] [28]. The vibes remind me of the moment when Alastor sang his song about a lost cause inside every demon in Hell in the Hazbin Hotel pilot and Tiana imagining her dream of running a restaurant in honour of her father’s dream as she sang “Almost There” in The Princess and the Frog [13] [33]. Mitzi’s lovely singing, performed by Willow Wilde [15] [28], is another reason why I consider her one of my favourite felines fromLackadaisy and I tend to compare her to the likes of Tiana from The Princess and the Frog, as well as Charlie Morningstar from Hazbin Hotel [13] [33] [67] [68]. Even if Lackadaisy - Season One might not be a full-on musical in comparison to Hazbin Hotel [3] [42], I shall yearn for more drama and wit based on the webcomics aside from what has been hinted at in the teaser [69] [70], previous public preview [76] [77], and the others exclusively for paid members [30] [31] [32].

Mitzi’s hobby of performing as a lead singer and banjo player is outstanding [15] [28]. And yes, I suspect that Alastor and Mimzy from Hazbin Hotel could sing a song in that genre of music at some point in the third or fourth season, aside from the possibility of Satan from the eleventh episode of the second season of Helluva Boss making a special guest appearance [8] [20] [33] [34]. As for the other kitties who made an appearance in the pilot [29], Zib is the clarinet player of the band who remains silent in the preview, along with Mordecai being bothered by a dancing couple, Viktor remaining another strong, silent type, and Sedgewick making an entrance in a sophisticated manner [15] [28]. [15] [28]

I knew the reappearance of Adam in Hazbin Hotel - Season Two would be an illusion like Pat Butcher reappearing as a figment of Peggy Mitchell’s mind before her death in the final episode of EastEnders she appeared in [6] [14] [65] [66]. Chances are that he could be even more dastardly and ruthless as a hallucination than how he was before his death in the first season due to Lute’s anger and grief. Speaking of an illusion of a deceased close one, could Mitzi see her deceased husband as a figment of her imagination at some point in the first season of Lackadaisy after the events of the pilot {28} [29] [67] [68]? [42]

What other aspects of the latest preview boost the cred of the upcoming season aside from the performance [15] [28]? Well, while the Vees are already being rather impactful main antagonists without a sign of the same controversy caused by Valentino in another preview of the second season of Hazbin Hotel [43] [65] [66], the cats’ reactions to the results of their gambling are another comedic aspect in the Lackadaisy series aside from what antics Rocky Rickaby may get up to, yet the two cats who get into a brawl are another aspect of drama aside from the car chase scene in the pilot [15] [28] [29]. No wonder some of us believe that Husk from Hazbin Hotel fits more into that universe instead of Vivienne Medrano’s Hellaverse [33] [65] [66], even though he died at some point in the 1970s [19]. Chances are that the scene of the classic clubbing at Little Daisy Café either takes place before the events of the pilot or is entirely imagined by Mitzi shortly after them [15] [28] [29]. The interior of the speakeasy is about as illuminated as the redesign of the main hotel lobby in the second season of Hazbin Hotel and a lot is going on during the musical number [3] [15] [28] [65] [66], which shows the amount of ambition put into the scene to artistically establish those “partying in the ‘20s” vibes, much to the expectational skills of the animation team and background artists, which will be further explained in a jiffy.

Looking more carefully at the moment of Atlas sitting with his drink on his paw [15] [28], chances are that the scene takes place at some point before he and his wife meet Rocky in the streets where he plays his violin alone, which is shown in the Season One teaser [69] [70]. This speculation is due to his absence in the latest preview [15] [28]. [15] [28]

If only the Alfred Alfer movie could have been a little more like the Christmas special known as “Alfred’s Story of Christmas” [80], so there would have been somehow clever writing, especially some engaging conversational humour, that would not have been overshadowed by excessive crudeness, especially all the graphic sexual acts, and uncomfortably flashy effects in the final that was also overshadowed by Trumpism and some Islamophobia [72] [73] [81]. On a lighter note, I can already see that the first season of Lackadaisy will be a mild balance of light-heartedness and the kind of drama you would find in a crime fiction set in the Prohibition era of the 1920s in St. Louis [29] [67] [68]. [15] [28]

 
The animation in the musical preview of an episode of the first season of Lackadaisy is spectacular and you can tell that it is not cheap to complete [15] [28]. Aside from a few frame rate issues, you can tell the characters’ movements are remaining life-like in terms of animating anthropomorphic cats throughout the forthcoming first season, but it will take more than just the same excellent quality of the animation from the pilot and first short to make the first season exceptional [29] [69] [70] [76] [77]. How the spotlight shines on Mrs. May before the glasses held by her audience are raised somehow reminds me of the musical number at Ozzie’s in the first part of the Season One finale of Helluva Bossbecause of the colour palette at the start of her performance and the sparkle and dust effects added to it are quite mesmerising [15] [24] [28]. I love how her dress glistens like a Cullen’s skin in the sunlight [55] [56] [58]. Sorry, traditional vampire fans [49]. The look of the alcohol that is poured into glasses after Sedgewick’s entrance could make Conker the Squirrel’s mouth water [15] [28] [36]. Tracy J. Butler, the creator of the webcomics, has expressed how proud she is of the animation team and we should be proud of them too [15]. The same applies to the animation styles of the cartoons known as the “Glitch Originals” [28].

There is something quite enchanting about seeing a world of anthropomorphic cats in a world set in the Roaring ‘20s in colour [15] [28], yet I still wonder if Alastor and Mimzy are familiar with it [20]. [15] [28]

This colour palette may remind a hazbean of the Lust Ring of Hell [23] [24], but the spirit of Little Daisy Café is alive in a seemingly more respectable interpretation of the United States [15] [28], compared to Octavia’s muddled journey through Holly’s Wood [22], during this musical number [15] [28]. [15] [28]

 
We have admired animated adventures and cherished the creative impacts of them for over one hundred years [74] [75]. Cartoon cats have come a long way since the debut of Felix the Wonderful, Wonderful Cat back in 1919, which we celebrated the 100^th anniversary of in 2019 [59]. I am up for six episodes in one television-length season of Lackadaisy as much as I am up for a prequel to Catherine: Full Body based on the events of the Japan-exclusive novel known as “Catherine: The Mysterious Tale of Rapunzel” [15] [60], as well as an anime or manga adaptation of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss [5] [7] [61] [62] [78] [79]. Besides, the R-rated musical cred of Medrano’s Hellaverse is still helping me through life without my mother [1] [2] [3] [34] [42] [71]. Aside from the development of Lackadaisy, the first season of The Gaslight District, another toon from GLITCH is currently in pre-production after the success of its pilot [11] [17] [28]. It will not be long until MySims: Cozy Bundle becomes available on Apple Arcade, two months before the English dub of the third season of Pokémon Horizons is released on Netflix this January [52] [54]. In the meantime, the next chapter of a hotel for sinners to be redeemed at awaits us on Prime Video shortly after the launch of Fizzarolli minifigures in blind boxes known as “Fizzies” from Stylish Occult near this Halloween [3] [47] [48] [65] [66]. Please give us a full season of cats challenging the law against booze in the 1920s over a mentally unwell dog who is, unfortunately, associated with a Neo-Nazi ideology and does not even try to be a better person to inspiringly bloom from his trauma aside from using Donald Trump as a (misleading) source of empowerment any day [57] [63] [64] [72] [73]. Moreover, I still stand by the true intention of Hazbin Hotel besides the Vees’ aim to fiendishly misrepresent it and frame Charlie Morningstar as I am not one for questionable propaganda [3] [43] [65] [66]. Kudos to Christian Borle for his Vox cosplay at this year’s New York Comic Con though [21]. [82]

Of course, I am curious about the other two minisodes besides “Ingenue” as I firmly stand by how Lackadaisy is NOT a rip-off of Helluva Boss due to how the two properties are clearly set in different eras of time and that Lackadaisy was established long before Helluva Boss was [35] [67] [68] [69] [70] [74] [75]. If another straw finally breaks the camel’s back [40] [65] [66], I can always move on to the Lackadaisy fandom [15] [27] [28]. But still, Moxxie and Millie can join me in their kitty costumes if they wish [83]. Let us not forget about the strange but promising Bat-Fam on Prime Video either next month [41]. As always, I thank those who are supportive of my writing dearly for their compassion and I will not stop writing [40]. [15] [28]
